About Our Staff

Pastor:  Phyllis Heffner

Phyllis has served St. Andrew since 1994.  A true “Jersey girl,” she graduated from Drew University and Princeton Theological Seminary.  She loves liturgy and the art of preaching, sings in the choir, and writes stories and essays.  She also serves on the board of directors of A Portable Theatre.

Phyllis is a fan of mystery and detective novels, dotes on her pug Madeleine, and bakes a pretty mean batch of brownies.

Director of Music
Stephen Smith

Church music is Stephen’s passion.  For 30 years his involvement has been as handbell director, music director, and in music sales.

Around Columbus the talented Stephen is know as a phenomenal solo handbell artist, having played in many local churches.

When he’s not directing or playing music, you may find him building with LEGO bricks, finding thrills on a roller coaster, or investigating the latest music app for his tablet.

Director of Music Emeritus:  Garry A. Cornell

Garry is well known throughout the U.S. and Ohio as a composer of music for church choirs.  He is the owner and director of publications of Celebrations Unlimited, a Columbus music publishing company.

Garry served as music director at St. Andrew from 2001 to 2014. He’s an avid reader and in warm weather loves to get away on his sailboat.

Organist:  OPEN

Parish Nurse:  Jane Vaughan, R.N.

Jane is a graduate of Duke University’s School of Nursing and worked in OSU, Riverside, and Harding Hospitals.  Upon completing a continuing education course on parish nursing at Otterbein, Jane was named parish nurse in 2000.  She provides for educational programs and assistance to members of the congregation based on principles of wellness of body, mind, and spirit.

Jane also anchors the alto section in the choir and, as an avid traveler, is always perusing brochures for “the next trip.”
