RINGING OF THE HOUR

WELCOME

PRELUDE

*CALL TO WORSHIP
      Pastor:      Blessed be the name of the Lord!
      People:    From the rising of the sun to its setting,
                        the name of the Lord is to be praised.

      Pastor:      The Lord is high above all nations;
                        God’s glory is above the heavens.

      People:    Yet God lifts up the lowly and humble in heart.

Pastor:      Then let us look to the Lord and be glad!
      People:    We will rejoice and give thanks for God’s mighty works.
      Pastor:     Let us worship God!
[Ps. 113:2-7; Ps. 34:5]

*CALL TO CONFESSION

Pastor:      The Lord is good and forgiving.
      People:    God is love and is gracious to all who call upon him.

Pastor:      Let us trust in God as we make the confessions of our hearts.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION   (Unison)

            O God of compassion and understanding, keep us from turning our self-worth into self-centeredness. We seek to live in the world with courage and confidence, and yet remain humble before you. We want to be resourceful, yet recognize our dependence upon you.

            Help us to hold on to all that you have taught us, and rejoice in the good you have given us. Fill our hearts and minds with the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Pastor:      Hear what the Lord proclaims:
                        “I shall give you a new heart;
                        a new spirit I will put within you.

      People:    I will cause you to walk according to my ways

                        so you shall be my people and I will be your God.”

Pastor:      Friends, believe the gospel:
      People:    In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

*PASSING OF THE PEACE
      Pastor:      Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive
                        one another.  The Peace of Christ be with you.

      People:    And also with you.
                                (The people may exchange signs of God’s peace.)
